Pilipinas Tara Na!

The Department of Tourism has just released its latest campaign with a new logo called Pilipinas Tara Na!

This almost immediately coming after the "plagiarized" Pilipinas Kay Ganda! fiasco!

It just makes one think why the current administration has worked so hard to eliminate all traces of the Arroyo administration, including the ones that were actually working.   My vote is on the "WOW Philippines" campaign.  I understand the goal of restoring trust and confidence to the Philippine government, but wiping out the good with the bad is definitely not the way to go.Ninoy Aquino & The Rise of People Power

I can't understand why the Department of Tourism (DOT) is so fixated up on domestic tourism.  I was shocked when I heard the Philippines was not in Lonely Planets Travel Guide to Southeast Asia!

It would have been cheaper and more effective had the DOT decided to to continue working on a campaign that was actually working without throwing away millions of Pesos for the research and development of a new campaign and the materials for the previous campaign.

Race! Otter vs. Boy!

Wow! This is just amazing, an otter in the San Diego Zoo playing with a visiting boy.  What a lucky Boy! Smart otter too.

Would love for this to happen when I visit the zoo with my son.  Would really make the trip worth it!

Serious Humor in Sports!

I would really love to see that footrace between Jason Kidd and Mike Bibby.  Don't get me wrong Bibby was clutch when he was with the Sacramento Kings and Kidd is one of the best Point Guards of all time, but the though of those two in a 100m dash seems outrageous!

Dwayne Wade is nicknamed "The Flash" for his quickness, but we all know its just an attribution right? He ain't the comic book hero Barry Allen!

Kim Chiu: Skinny? NOT!

Kim Chiu

In the Philippines, Kim Chiu is a popular name.  She won Pinoy Big Brother which is the Philippine version of the Big Brother Franchise almost a a decade ago so it seems!  She is a Telenovela (Filipino version of the soap-opera, but shown in primetime television) darling.

The criticism was she was so skinny...  But looking at this picture... She looks just right to me!  Not skinny at all!

Note on the previous post:  I just found out that the JCPenny is using the scene in its latest commercial, will look for the commercial in youtube and post it as soon as I have the time!

Phoebe Cates: Nostalgic!

I was supposed to post about the fact that the Dallas Mavericks won the Western Conference Finals and are going to the NBA Finals for a possible rematch with the Miami Heat, but then I came upon an article about Phoebe Cates and I just had to post something about it! The Dallas post will have to come later!

I was too young to know where this iconic picture was taken.  But I remember this scene from posters, pictures and cut scenes, Phoebe Cates in her famous red bikini.

The funny thing is this the first time I heard that it was from the movie Fast Times at Ridgemont High!!! To read the article on Phoebe Cates click here.

Heat lead 3-1!

The Miami Heat lead the NBA Eastern Conference Finals 3-1.  The Chicago Bulls, the team with the best record in the regular season, the Season MVP (Derrick Rose) and the Coach of the Year (Tom Thibodeau) just seemed lost and appear to have their backs broken.

Steve Mitchell-US PRESSWIRE
Dwayne Wade celebrates with Chris Bosh after overcoming 30 scoreless minutes in the game, but coming up with clutch plays, including a highlight block on a driving Derrick Rose in Overtime.  I remember this was the same Chris Bosh, Oklahoma City Thunder's Kevin Durant (the one celebrating as if they won the series against Dallas before end of regulation of Game 4) called soft right?

Well apparently D-Wade had Bosh's back on this.

From ESPN's Daily Dime Live:

Adam Reisinger (ESPN.com):
Wade: "The game is not won in the first minute, it's won in the last." WADE IS TAKING SHOTS AT THE THUNDER!

Let us not forget LeBron James' continued stellar performance in this series, as ESPN's John Hollinger notes and Rose confesses that:

Now the Thunder are in the brink of elimination and the Heat need only one more game to advance to the finals.

Ironic is it not?

Of course, the fat lady has not began singing, but it is seeming more and more to be a repeat of the 2006 NBA Finals.  Miami Heat vs. Dallas Mavericks: Round 2.  It also appears my good friend was wrong when he predicted a Miami vs. Los Angeles Lakers Finals.

Sarcasm? Duh!

Another RH Bill post.  Yes this will be the last... at least until something undeniably funny comes up.

I was able to read a humorous take on the debate it's called Why the RH Bill is Bad: The Real Truth behind the Supposed Truth about the RH Bill written by on Dustin Celestino.  In the website filipinofreethinkers.org, the article was under the category Humor (sarcasm), unfortunately some readers missed the category and read the article, without understanding the author's intent and humor.

An excerpt:

“The RH bill will put Filipinos at risk of extinction!”
1. I agree. If we pass the RH bill, we will become extinct, like dinosaurs. The dinosaurs are all dead. If we don’t want to be extinct, we should not pass the RH Bill. I mean, do you really want to be a dinosaur?
2. In my opinion, it wouldn’t even be far-fetched to speculate that the most probable reason the dinosaurs became extinct was because they used contraceptives.
3. Population decline is just bad for nations. Just look at the countries which have a declining population – Italy, Japan and Singapore. They’re in such a bad shape. The Philippines obviously has a better economy and has a higher literacy rate than these countries. In fact, many Italians, Japanese, and Singaporeans go to the Philippines for work. That only goes to show that a decline in population is bad for the economy.

Heated exchanges in the comments show the article's effectiveness.  Although the article has been somewhat overshadowed by the comments. The comments actually paint a picture of the entire RH debate.  People from either side, are not aware of the contents of the Bill, they are just taking bits and pieces of the bill and fighting for it or against it, citing scripture and facts.

I guess thats what makes it entertaining for some, but I believe the content of this Bill is important and should be discussed properly in an academic setting, with calmer minds and out of the spotlight.  But hey, that just my take on all of this.

This will be the last... for now!

Manny Pacquiao and the RH Bill

Photo Reference
If you are Filipino, a boxing fan, a Manny Pacquiao fan, or into the pro-life/pro-abortion debates, chances are you know that Manny Pacquiao and his family are the talk of the town in the Philippines.   No, its not because he defeated a fleeing Sugar Shane Mosley in a unanimous decision ages ago, its because of the pro-life/anti-life debate started by the Catholic Church against the Reproductive Health Bill.

Apparently, someone convinced Manny that the RH Bill is anti-life and he should be the Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) poster boy for the anti-RH movement.

But the funny thing is, Pacquiao's wife, Jinkee, admitted that she used contraceptives and whats more, in a press conference with the Bishops, he wore a purple tie (which is the color of the pro-RH bill movement) in the event.  Guess who prepared the tie?  Mrs. Pacquaio! No, not Mommy Dionisia!   It was Jinkee again!

The irony of it all!

Introduction...

Maybe I should post this somewhere else, but since I'm new to blogging altogether, I'll just make this my first post.

Everything about this blog will come back to this first post.

The intention of this blog is to find humor in everything I come across in life.  As I am young or not that old depending on which side of the fence you come from, this could be a blog that will go on for years, if I have the time!

I will try to post something everyday, there will be a mix of serious humor, sarcasm, jokes and other things I find humorous.  I would be happy to share with you my humor.  I would also be happy to know your thoughts.  If there are other things I can do to make the blog better, please let me know.

Again, I am new at this. At least, that is the case as I am doing this, but it may change soon enough!
